Vector Depicting Third SEISS Grant Eligibility Tightened

Third SEISS grant applications tightened

The third SEISS  grant (Self-Employed Income Support Scheme) has seen eligibility tightened for applications.  The scheme opens on Monday 30 November and it’s important to double check your eligibility.

What is the third SEISS grant?

The third SEISS grant has been made available as the UK Government recognises the continued impact that coronavirus (COVID-19) has had on the self-employed and has taken action to provide support.

The third grant has been extended to provide critical support to the self-employed in the form of 2 further grants.  These two grants are each available for 3 month periods covering November 2020 to January 2021 and February 2021 to April 2021.

Third SEISS eligibility

To be eligible for the third SEISS grant your business must have had a new or continuing impact from coronavirus between 1 November 2020 and 29 January 2021.  Applicants must be able to declare themselves to be either currently trading, but impacted by reduced demand due to coronavirus, or to have been trading but temporarily unable to do so due to coronavirus.

Applicants must also declare they intend to continue to trade and they ‘reasonably believe’ there will be a significant reduction in their trading profits.

You must have traded in both tax years:

  • 2018 to 2019 and submitted your Self Assessment tax return on or before 23 April 2020 for that year
  • 2019 to 2020

You must either:

You must also declare that:

  • you intend to continue to trade
  • you reasonably believe there will be a significant reduction in your trading profits

The third SEISS grant restrictions are tighter than before so please carefully check your eligibility.

You will be required to keep evidence to support your claim.
